In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

E v e n T h o u g h ::

When I Whine

The Blessing Is Mine

. . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Today, upon a bus,
I saw a girl with golden hair
and wished I was just as fair.
When she rose to leave,
I saw her hobble down the aisle
She had one leg and wore a crutch.
But as she passed, a smile.
Oh, Allah, forgive me when I whine.
I have two legs, the blessing is mine.

I stopped to buy some candy.
The boy who sold it had such charm.
I spoke with him, he seemed so glad.
If I were late, it'd do no harm.
And as I left, he said to me,
"I thank you, you've been so kind.
It's nice to talk with people like you.
You see," he said, "I'm blind."
Oh, Allah, forgive me when I whine.
I have two eyes, the blessing is mine.

Later whilst walking down the street,
I saw a little child with eyes of blue.
He stood and watched the others play.
He did not know what to do.
I stopped a moment and then I said,
"Why don't you join the others, dear?"
He looked ahead without a word.
And then I knew, he couldn't hear.
Oh, Allah, forgive me when I whine.
I have two ears, the blessing is mine.

With feet to take me where I'd go.
With eyes to see the sunset's glow.
With ears to hear what I'd know.
Oh, Allah, forgive me when I whine.
I've been blessed indeed,
the world is mine.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . .

All Blessings are from our Most Loving Allah,
And in deepest gratitude we shall say .....

Even though I clutch my blanket and groan when the alarm rings,
Thank you Allah, that I can hear.
There are many who are deaf.

Even though I keep my eyes closed against
the morning light as long as possible,
Thank you Allah, that I can see.
Many are blind.

Even though I huddle in my bed and put off rising,
Thank you Allah, that I have the strength to rise.
There are many who are bedridden.

Even though the first hour of my day is hectic,
when socks are lost, the toast is burnt and tempers are short,
Thank you Allah, for my family.
There are those who are homeless and lonely.

Even though our breakfast table never looks like the
magazine photos and the menu is unbalanced,
Thank you Allah, for the food we have.
There are many who are hungry and starving.

Even though the routine of my job is often monotonous,
Thank you Allah, for the opportunity to work.
There are those who struggle in despair to find employment.

Even though I grumble and moan about my fate from day to day
and wish my circumstances were not so modest,
Thank you Allah, for my life.

Thank you
Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala
